What's New

August 19, 2001 - Updated the MAME cocktail (formerly a Gorf cabinet) page. The new wood pieces have been laminated and are a perfect match with the original wood-grain. I'll get some t-molding next.

The family grows a bit more... this time it's a Donkey Kong Jr. PCB (bootleg).

August 18, 2001 - "Amidar" PCB finally tested and it works.

The prodigal son, "Mr. Do!" returns home. This board was one I actually bought last fall, and thinking I'd never get around to testing it, I dontated it to my friend Todd. He's since aquired another copy, so returned this one and with it, a Donkey Kong, another Kangaroo (not working), and another Elevator Action (also DOA).

The family continues to grow... I now own a Kick and a Xevious!

Another Legend of Kage board is on its way from California too. This one is supposedly dead, but may have a good replacement ROM for my dead board.

August 7, 2001 - "The Legend of Kage" PCB mystery partially solved, one of the ROMS was plugged in upside down.

August 4, 2001 - Both Elevator Action PCBs, Jungle King, and Birdie King II PCBs have been modified (shorted "C" to "2" on jumper "JH") to coin-up without a coin meter. Replaces a cap at C23 on Birdie King II and sound has returned to that game. The only Taito PCB left is "The Legend of Kage" which only displays a mustard-yellow screen on power-up.

July 31, 2001 - Jungle King has regained his voice! The culprit was a Z80A in socket IC52 should have been a Z80C. Problem solved!

July 25, 2001 - Elevator Action lives - the culprit was four broken traces.

July 17, 2001 - Birdie King 2 works. Jungle King lives once again, but Tarzan doesn't want to yell (music plays though). I can't seem to get it, or Birdie King (also Taito) to coin up.

July 8, 2001 - More Jungle King updates. The socket at IC70 has been removed and a new socket & rom are on their way from Bob Roberts.

July 8, 2001 - Work on Elevator Action continues. It lives...sorta.

The King is dead...long live the king. While attempting a ROM swap with my Elevator Action PCB, I noticed rom KN57-1 (IC70) on the Jungle King PCB had five broken pins. Two had been re-soldered to the socket, but that connection broke when the IC was extracted. According to the schematics that is part of the sound - which may explain why I never heard Tarzan's Yell when the game started. I'll get a new ROM burned, and replace the socket to see if that corrects the problem.

July 8, 2001 - Jungle King lives!

June 28, 2001 - Work proceeds on the cocktail table project - soon to be a Ms PacMan.

June 26, 2001 - Another PCB brought to life - this time it's Boomer Rang'r.

I've also started a page documenting my GORF cocktail table project. This was given to me for free, and had a 19-inch monitor I was able to revive, but the cabinet itself was in sorry shape. It will live again, tentatively as a combination MAME machine/vertical JAMMA cabinet.

June 19, 2001 - Mystery solved - the "Unknown SEGA PCB" is indeed "Choplifter". I built a harness tonight and fired it up. It works 100% with great sound. I then plugged in "Choplifter PCB #2", and it too came up - but with a solid tone for sound. I had that fixed in under an hour, thanks to some lucky guesswork. See the repair log for details.

June 17, 2001 - A Silkworm PCB just joined the family, along with a mini-cabinet from Universal. The cabinet joins a gutted Gorf cocktail, and MACH3 upright in my garage. The Universal and MACH3 cabs may become JAMMA (one horizontal the other vertical), and the Gorf...hmmm, what to do....

Also visited Mickster's Arcade - I'm still too awe-struck to describe his collection. Check out his site

June 14, 2001 - I won another one (when will this madness end?!) - this time it's Choplifter. The PCB looks an awful lot like the "Unknown Sega" mentioned below, so I may have already solved that mystery...

June 11, 2001 - Added some initial pics and background info on my Vulgus and Amidar and PCBs.

June 10, 2001 - Added some background on my Golden Axe PCB.

June 9, 2001 - Two more PCBs, both made by Taito - Jungle King and The Legend of Kage. I won both for only $15.25!

I finally built a test harness for my Bagman PCB, and whadya know - it works!

June 8, 2001 - Won another "Unknown" PCB for $10.50. This one is made by SEGA and appears to have a 68000 CPU onboard. It'll be fun to figure out what it is.

June 4, 2001 - Although it'll be a while until I get to working on it, I posted some initial photos and findings for my 1942 PCB.

June 2, 2001 - Two PCBs repaired in one day! After taking a break for a couple of weeks, I decided to finally take a look at my Vanguard PCBs. In only two hours I was able to bring both up with full sound and speech. Details are on the Vanguard Repair Log page.
